The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is in the process of integrating iTax into the National Land Information Management System (NLIMS) in partnership with the state department for Lands and Physical Planning. On November, 30th 2023, the Principal Secretary for Lands and Physical Planning, Hon Nixon Korir held a consultative meeting with the Commissioner General for Kenya Revenue Authority, Humphrey Wattanga Mulongo to review the progress of this new development as reported by the state department.
The integration is meant to enhance revenue collection as it will improve transparency and curb corruption. During the meeting, the two parties resolved to creating a team to escalate the integration as a matter of urgency. Once the integration is completed, KRA will have its eyes on all land-related transactions in all registries around the country, making it nearly impossible for land buyers and sellers to pay relevant taxes on such transactions. The National Land Information Management System is the platform that hosts Ardhi Sasa, which handles various services offered by the department.
This comes shortly after KRA transferred stamp duty collection to the state department of Lands and Physical Planning through the e-citizen Pay Bill number. The move will streamline stamp duty collection and ease the process for citizens. Previously, stamp duty was paid through the iTax platform, after which the receipts would be taken to the state department as proof of compliance.
Meanwhile, the state department is also in the process of rolling out the cashless revenue collection system in all the registries countrywide in an effort to curb embezzlement.
