Relief for Construction Industry as Finance Bill 2025 Lowers Export Promotion Levy
Thursday, June 19th, 2025, The Kenyan Parliament approved the Finance Bill, 2025 with proposals to lower the Export Promotion and Investment Levy from 17.5% to 5%. This proposal affects semi-finished iron and non-alloy steel products. The levy was introduced in 2023, through the Finance Bill to encourage local manufacturing but has since impacted the cost of construction materials negatively.

Kiambu County Takes Bold Steps in Taming Urban Sprawl and Controlling Development
In June, 2025 Kiambu County introduced updated Spatial Planning Rules which will significantly affect developers and landowners in the county. In alignment to the county’s Integrated Strategic Urban Development Plan, the new rules prioritize preservation of agricultural land, requiring developers to set aside certain percetages of land for peri-urban agriculture.

Kenya Surpasses 1 million Square Footage of EDGE-Certified Green Buildings
In March, 2025, EDGE a global Green Building Certification body announced on its social media pages that Kenya marked an important milestone by reaching 1 million square metres in EDGE- certified buildings. The certification body estimates, Kenya’s EDGE buildings are preventing approximately 23,300 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
